SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

Education in the United Kingdom is regionalised with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having separate systems under separate governments. The UK education system consists of two distinct systems of courses and qualifications which are compatible with each other. One system is followed by England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the other is adopted by Scotland.

Higher education often begins with

Undergraduate degrees : Higher National Certificates/Diplomas and Foundation degrees These qualifications allow students to progress to the 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree based on their results.

Bachelor’s : 3 years degree in except for Scotland where the degrees are 4 years.

Postgraduate degrees: Postgraduate certificate and Postgraduate diploma range between 9-12 months Master’s : 1 year either taught or by research, Doctorate, a research degree that usually takes at least three years.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

If students native language is not English, they will be required to demonstrate English proficiency by gaining an English language qualification prior to the commencement of their programs. Minimum requirements are detailed below; however higher levels may be required for entry onto certain programs

VISA PROCESS

The British High Commission in India has procedures to facilitate the visa application process. Students should lodge their visa application at one of the application centres, operated by Visa Facilitation Services (VFS).

VFS collected the required document and will take biometric information of the student, which includes a photograph and a digital scan of your fingerprints. Along with appointment confirmation, Visa fee receipt. passport and recent photograph. After the document submission student will need to sit a short interview in the visa application centre and will be interviewed by an interviewer

All applications lodged at VFS are then immediately forwarded to the High Commission or the relevant Deputy High Commission. The assessment of the visa application and the final decision on whether you would require an interview or not will be taken by an Entry Clearance Officer at the British High Commission or the relevant Deputy High Commission. And if the visa application is successful student passport endorsed with appropriate UK visa is returned to the VFS office by courier & may be asked to come and collect it or it is couriered to student home or office address. The processing time for a settlement application is 95% within 12 weeks.

HOUSING AND ACCOMODATION

One of the important things that a student arriving in the United Kingdom will have to consider is accommodation. Students are expected to live in shared accommodation which is offered by the University or private sector

Accommodation offered by the University are known as halls of residence which has a member of the staff living in the premises, Shared rooms with or without kitchen. Majority of first year students choose to live in this type of accommodation which is mainly suitable for single students.

Private accommodation are flats taken on rent which can also be shared, sharing helps to reduce the cost of living for a student

Homestay is also possible where students live with a UK family in their own home, it’s a great opportunity to learn UK culture and living style

WORKING PART-TIME
Working alongside to studies is a fantastic way to gain skills for student future career. Many international students in the UK take a part-time job. If Students are on full time study the demands of the course will not allow the student to work for much time and as masters is for 1 year and bachelor is for 3 there is no much free time for students. Full time students may work part time for a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time and 40 hours per week during the vacation.

Post Study Work options
Students can stay in the UK for around four months after their course finishes. During this period, they can work full-time in a temporary job until their student visa expires. Student immediately can apply for Tier 2 General visa at any time between course ending and visa finishing. Tier 2 (General) is part of the UKBA Points Based System and is a visa for those that have a graduate level job offer from a UK company. This type of visa can lead to obtaining settlement in the UK.
