SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

Education in Canada differs considerably from province to province, as per the Law of Canada. Thus, every province is responsible to ensure the best possible education to the students.

Universities offer programs that range from fine art, biology and commerce to astronomy, media studies and religion.Currently, there are more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered in Canada, as well as professional degree programs and certificates

Post-Secondary Education is available in both government-supported and private institutions, which offer degrees, diplomas, certificates, and attestations depending on the nature of the institution and the length of the program. The postsecondary environment has evolved during the past few years, as universities are no longer the only degree-granting institutions in some jurisdictions. A recognized postsecondary institution is a private or public institution that has been given full authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of the provincial or territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism.

Canada has 163 recognized public and private universities and 183 recognized public colleges and institutes, including those granting applied and bachelor's degrees. In addition to the recognized institutions, there are 68 university-level institutions and 51 college-level ones operating as authorized institutions, at which only selected programs are approved under provincially established quality assurance programs.

ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY

MastersDegree:Atleast 70% or more in Bachelors Degree. The degree should preferably be of 4 years

Bachelors Degree: Minimum 70 % or above in Secondary and higher secondary education

Under Graduate Diploma: 55 % aggregate or above in higher Secondary

Post Graduate Diploma: 55% aggregate or above in Bachelor’s Degree

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

IELTS is a pre-requisite to seek admission in Canada for College/University level. The score ranges from atleast 6 bands to 7 Bands as per the level of University/College

SAT may be demanded by a handful of universities.

GRE qualification is optional, though a good GRE score may prove handy to get admission in a good university, sometimes.

GMAT is a must for admission to some Business Schools but not for all.

VISA PROCESS

The only way to apply for a Canadian Student Visa is thru VFS Services. The Canadian High Commission entertains no other medium for accepting visa applications.

• Once the visa application file is lodged along with the prescribed visa fee and other relevant documents, the decision is given by the Canadian High Commission within a specific time frame. A potential student who is willing to study in Canada must convince the High commission that they will not overstay the stipulated period of their study program and they will get back to their home country upon completion of their course and also financially they’re sound enough to meet their educational or living expenses in Canada. A student is required to undergo a medical test to establish his good health. A student must not have indulged in unlawful practices and thus be willing to work/study/stay in Canada within the law in principle.

1. College Provided Accommodation

Homestays

Many Canadian families welcome international students. This may be an effective way for you to improve your English or French, learn about daily life in Canada, and meet new, friendly people. These families offer
Meals and a private, furnished room, Average cost: $400 - $800 CDN per month.

Residence/Dormitory

Many schools have accommodation conveniently located on or near their campus. Rooms can vary in size and in quality, and many dormitories have shared kitchens, toilets, showers and laundry facilities. There is usually an option of having either a shared or private room, and dormitories are usually separated by gender. Most dormitories come furnished, and are an ideal way to become involved in campus activities and meet other students.
Average cost: $3,000 - $7,500 CDN per school year.

2. Off-Campus Housing

Renting

Renting is an option open to students, but price, quality and availability vary greatly. Rents are often quite high in the major cities, and places are not always available. Many students share accommodation to keep costs down and usually find places to meet their needs and preferences.
Listings of available apartments or homes are published in local newspapers. It is the responsibility of the student to determine suitability.
Average cost: $250 - $700 CDN monthly.

WORKING PART-TIME
Any international student can choose to work part time while they are the full time students of any approved and privately/ publically funded educational institutes in Canada, regardless of the fact, they have work permit or not.

Post Study Work options
PGWPP (Post Graduation Work Permit Program) allows a work permit toany International student who is part of any study program which continues for at least 8 months of period. Students can stay and work in Canada post their study course for equal duration of their study program, just in case the course duration is shorter than 2 years. However, the student can expect to stay in Canada on work permit for 3 years if the course length is 2 years or more.
